Why Owl Post covers Politics

Political coverage is a churn of polls, hot takes, and outrage cycles. The actual story — what a bill does, how a primary moved, which down-ballot race signals where the cycle is heading — gets crowded out by whatever generates the loudest reaction. Owl Post reads polling crosstabs, reads the legislation, and surfaces the moves that actually matter to outcomes — with both sides presented and the reader trusted to draw conclusions.

The voice you read it in is yours. Pick an analytical, measured voice if you want the policy frame. Pick a zero-patience-for-spin voice if you want the sharper read. Same events, your voice.

A daily politics digest. Polls, policy, and what actually moved — in 3 minutes. Both sides, one digest.

Scoop: Mike Collins hires top Trump advisers ahead of Georgia runoff

Several of President Trump's top political advisers are joining Rep. Mike Collins' campaign in the Georgia Senate race, Axios has learned. Why it matters: The hires provide the clearest indication yet that Trump may be leaning towards endorsing Collins ahead of his June 16 primary runoff against former University of Tennessee head football coach Derek Dooley. The winner will challenge Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in November. Zoom in: Trump 2024 adviser Tony Fabrizio has been tapped to serve as Collins' pollster and senior strategist. Trump campaign chief data strategist Tim Saler will serve in the same capacity for Collins. Chip Englander, who was Trump's battleground states' strategist, will be general consultant. Between the lines: Trump is not always predictable in who he supports. Even though Several of Trump's top strategists worked for Texas Sen. John Cornyn, Trump ended up endorsing Cornyn's primary opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. By the numbers: Collins received 41% in last week's primary, but fell short of the 50% threshold needed to avoid a runoff against Dooley, who finished second with 30%. The intrigue: Should Trump endorse Collins, it could create a proxy fight against Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who is supporting Dooley. Trump endorsed Kemp in 2018, but then turned on the governor after he refused to help overturn Trump's 2020 election defeat in the state. The president supported a 2022 primary challenge to Kemp, which the governor beat back easily. Trump attacked Kemp during the 2024 campaign, alarming Republicans who argued that the president needed the support of the popular governor to win the state. Trump and Kemp's relationship has since warmed. Shortly after his 2025 inauguration, Trump praised Kemp at a Republican Governors Association meeting.

Buyer's remorse hits Trump's Latino voters ahead of 2026 midterms

Data: UnidosUS/BSP Research/Shaw & Company; Chart: Sara Wise/Axios One-in-four Hispanic Trump voters saying they would not vote for him again if given the choice, according to a new UnidosUS poll. Why it matters: The erosion of Latino support for President Trump, combined with dissatisfaction with the economy, signals danger for competitive GOP-held seats in the 2026 midterm elections. Trump's gains with Latinos were one of the biggest political stories of 2024. Now, a new UnidosUS/BSP Research/Shaw & Co poll suggests those voters remain highly movable — a problem for Republicans in Latino-heavy battleground districts where both parties are watching for signs of a post-2024 snapback. By the numbers: Two-thirds of Latino voters disapprove of Trump's job performance, compared with 30% who approve. Disapproval is a majority in every region tested, including 51% in Florida. 25% of Latino Trump 2024 voters say they probably or certainly would not vote for him again. That compares with 5% of Harris 2024 voters who say they would not vote for her again. On the 2026 House ballot, Latino voters back the Democratic candidate over the Republican candidate 54%-27%, with 19% undecided. State of play: Latino voters are emerging as "the swingiest of the swing voters" ahead of the midterms, with economic anxiety and immigration concerns making them highly fluid in competitive districts. The GOP had hoped Trump's 2024 Latino gains represented a lasting realignment. Democrats see inflation, tariffs and aggressive immigration enforcement reopening Latino-heavy seats they feared were lost. Zoom in: The political damage to Republicans is highly apparent in critical battlefield states containing high-density Latino populations, the UnidosUS poll found. In Texas, where significant rightward shifts occurred in 2024, Trump's disapproval has skyrocketed to 67% among Latinos, and Democrats have opened a massive 54% to 28% generic House ballot lead. In California, Latino disapproval of Trump s
